Tokyo has a sick bicycle parking/locking solution that involves bringing your bike into a parking facility with an automated robotic parking attendant. You slide your bike into a hatch, receive a ticket and the machine slides your bike into the tower below. When you return, swipe your ticket and the machine retrieves your bike.
We desparately need something like this in NYC. I would think good places to start are Union Square and Columbus Circle. Come on you American parking companies. Get with it.
